We told you earlier in the week, here on GamecocksDigest, that this was going to be a stubborn rushing team that gives you a lot of eye candy; that's exactly what you got on the first drive. Throughout the game, Furman used a ton of motion, and at the beginning of the game, it worked to their advantage, scoring 14 points in the first half. The Gamecocks, however, would go on to do a much better job of containing the Paaldins' rushing attack and quarterback Tyler Huff, only allowing one touchdown the rest of the way.

You were also told that the Paladins, defensively, would be vulnerable to the big play, especially on the far side of the field, which the Gamecocks saw early and took advantage of all game long, hitting on seven total explosives for over 20 yards.

The most critical tendency for South Carolina was Dowell Loggains moving the launch point. The pass rush for Furman couldn't hone in on one particular spot Spencer Rattler would be; because of that, Rattler was afforded much more time and able to make big plays.

Another huge point of emphasis and trend was the Gamecocks improving their third down rate on both sides of the ball, and both looked much better compared to week one, with South Carolina converting on 60 percent of their 3rd downs offensively while holding Furman to a 40 percent conversion rate.

Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks will be pleased with these trends and happy that this squad performed much better this week against an opponent they should've defeated convincingly. Hopefully, they will continue on the right path heading into Athens, Georgia next week, where they will face one of the most formidable defenses they'll play all year.
