For the second straight year in a row, a group of highly anticipated newcomers made their unofficial debuts in South Carolina's annual Garnet and Black Spring game. One player from this group that fans likely wanted to see on Saturday night was Trey Knox, the tight end transfer from Arkansas, who followed now-offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains to Columbia.

Knox didn't disappoint, as he was utilized heavily in the Gamecocks' horizontal passing game to the tune of six catches, 40 receiving yards, and caught the first touchdown pass of the game, and according to quarterback Spencer Rattler, Trey has been a tremendous addition to South Carolina's offense.

"Can't complain when you have guys like this," Rattler stated. "Trey has been a great add-on to our team, very selfless, great leader, an experienced guy in this conference, and he played really well tonight."

One thing that the Gamecocks valued about Trey Knox when pursuing was his experience in the SEC, meaning he understands what it's like to play in hostile environments. Based on his comments after the Spring game, Williams-Brice stadium now has a different meaning to the graduate transfer.

"Those lights are the real deal, I mean I just wanted that injected into my veins, and hearing sandstorm in here for the first time just did something to me - The fans are rowdy, they showed up and showed out for a Spring game, you don't see that [at] a lot of places, so I'm just glad that I'm a part of a fanbase that cares and wants to see the Gamecocks win."

The aforementioned years of experience Knox has built up will also be great for a tight-end room comprising both veterans and young bucks, and Trey plans to bestow his knowledge upon everyone in his position group.

"The guys look to me when they need anything said, and I [don't] take that lightly at all, because I've been playing this game for a lot of years, and I've seen some things and done some things that weren't very good or done some things that were very good, and I just wanna pass that along cause I don't want them to struggle like I did," Trey said. "I wanna make plays but we're only as good as the guys behind me that make plays, and we want to be the best room [as much] as possible."
