Concession Food Item of the Week: Texas Chicken & Waffles
When AT&T Stadium hosted the Final Four tournament last year, it debuted the Texans’ jacked-up take on the classic chicken and waffles. It proved so popular that stadium officials brought it back for Dallas Cowboys fans this year. Three of the six components are fried, so you know it's worth it.
WHAT DO THEY CALL THIS WITCHCRAFT?: Texas Chicken & Waffles
WHO HATH WROUGHT THIS MONSTROSITY?: AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
WHAT COMPRISES SUCH A THING?: Fried chicken with onion rings, pepper jack cheese, pecan-maple mayonnaise and bacon sandwiched between two waffles.
WHAT’S SO TEXAS ABOUT THIS?: No chili, no barbecue, but apparently making anything in the shape of Texas automatically qualifies it as a state delicacy.
HOW MANY CALORIES WE TALKIN’?: Estimated at 900 calories. If you’re feeling guilty, try comparing it to some of the deep-fried foods offered at this year’s Texas State Fair. It could be worse.
AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?: One $20 bill, and your dignity.
