Mike Hilton on 2023 Bengals Impact: 'Trying to be The Turnover Monster'
CINCINNATI — AllBengals publisher James Rapien caught up with Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton after Tuesday's voluntary workouts and the cornerback revealed the top thing he wants to improve on in this upcoming season.
"Try to get the ball more," Hilton said about wanting to make more plays on the ball. "Trying to create more turnovers. I know what type of playmaker I am, so I feel like I can take it to the next level by taking the ball away, putting our offense in a short field, and just being the guy to make that game-changing play."
Cincinnati ranked sixth in turnover differential last season (+6) and amassed 24 turnovers on defense (11th). Hilton had one of those last season (an interception)—to go with six pass breakups.
"All the above," Hilton said about whether reading defenses more or going for more punchouts is the key to more chaos. "You gotta know what type of scheme you're going against to put yourself in position to make plays. And then you know the ripping the ball, you know just it's an effort thing, so I feel like that's something I'm gonna focus on a lot this year is just trying to be the turnover monster."
Hilton's career-high in forced turnovers came in his last year with the Steelers. The veteran posted 3 interceptions and a forced fumble in 2020.
