PFF Ranks Joe Mixon Outside NFL's Top-20 Running Backs
CINCINNATI — PFF dropped its 2023 running back rankings recently and Joe Mixon's lacking efficiency over the past few campaigns dropped the Bengals rusher to 22nd overall heading into the 2023 season.
"Mixon has a ton of production in his career," Trevor Sikkema wrote. "His 814 rushing yards, 16 explosive runs, and 3.9 yards per carry average in 2022 were lower than what you would want to see from both a volume and efficiency standpoint, but he remains comfortable with a heavy workload. That includes the passing game, where he recorded a career-high 60 catches and 414 receiving yards in 2022."
The receiving numbers were a nice boon for Mixon after a season where five of his 7 rushing touchdowns came in one game.
Still, 60 catches on 70 targets with just 4 drops helped him make a difference against coverage shells aimed at limiting the Bengals' deep passing attack.
Mixon is the lowest-ranked AFC North starting running back on the list.
