CINCINNATI — Bengals head coach Zac Taylor wasn't ready to stamp a date for Chidobe Awuzie to be fully ready to go as he closes out 2023 minicamp on Thursday, but the Bengals head coach knows the cornerback is "built different."

Awuzie's been caught on camera doing some impressive workouts as he sits roughly eight months removed from a torn ACL

"That's one thing I've learned in five years is always reserve injury excitement," Taylor said on Thursday. "I see the same things you guys do. Chido's built different. He's done a great job attacking the rehab and doing the things you need to do coming off the injury he had on Halloween. So excited to see the continued progress he's making. Don't want to make any rush to judgment on whenever he'll be back."

The 28-year-old tore the ACL on Oct. 31 and has been targeting Week 1 of the 2023 regular season for his return.

“I’m pretty much on schedule with everything they have planned for me,” Awuzie told Jay Morrison in April. “I’ve ran. I’ve jumped. I’ve lifted. It’s just a matter of time now. I feel really good. I’m excited about where I’m at. I thank God I haven’t really had any plateaus, haven’t really had any setbacks.”

He posted a stout 78.4 overall PFF grade in 2022 before getting injured.
