CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is practicing again on Thursday. It's a great sign for the star signal-caller. He was out for nearly five weeks after suffering a right calf strain on Aug. 31.

"I thought he looked good. It was good to get him out there," head coach Zac Taylor said. "It certainly energizes the team when you get a chance to get your starting quarterback back there, so I thought he looked good."

Burrow participated in 7-on-7 drills, while also going through install, walkthrough and individual drills.

The Bengals had been targeting this week for his return. Getting him on the field for two-straight practices is ideal, especially with a weekend off.

The players have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off before returning on Monday to start preparing for their Week 1 matchup in Cleveland.

What do coaches need to see before they give Burrow the green light for the season opener?

"I don't think there's a defined checklist we need to see," Taylor said. "It was just good to get him out with the team and calling plays in the huddle and all that good stuff at practice. I think that was encouraging for everybody."

Burrow didn't wear a sleeve or any kind of protection on his calf. He wasn't limping or showing any signs of pain.

For a second-straight day, the Bengals had their star on the field. They're hopeful that he'll be out there on Sept. 10 when it counts.
