Joe Burrow on Offensive Execution: 'Today, We Weren't Close'

Cincinnati went without a touchdown for the second game this season on Sunday.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals took it on the chin 27-3 against Tennessee to fall to 1-3 on the season. Quarterback Joe Burrow had another rough game, but did come out of it healthy as the offense looks for consistent execution.

They entered this game 32nd in the NFL in down-to-down success rate, and it didn't look any better scoring just three points in Nashville.

"Depends on the day," Burrow said about the offense's execution level throughout each week. "Today, we weren't close. We weren't close to winning the game. So we have been in the past. Like I said, got a lot of work to do."

Burrow finished 20-of-30 for 165 yards as Cincinnati's barrel towards a bottom-three-point differential in the league through four weeks. They won't be eliminated by any means from playoff contention with a loss to Arizona. But it will start to get very dire at 1-4 with no wins in the AFC.

"Not if we keep playing the way we are," Burrow said about this team being a playoff squad. "We have the capability of being a playoff team. But that's so far in the future. We got to just worry about tomorrow and getting better tomorrow at this point."

The offensive line that this coaching staff continues to oddly rave about was a disaster again on Sunday. Burrow got sacked three times, took nine hits and the Bengals had a putrid 22% pass-block win rate at one point late in the second half.

All while sporting the fifth-highest-paid offensive line room in the league. They've allowed a low sack total overall this year, but that's largely due to a ton of quick passing and one of the lowest passing target depths in the league from Burrow.

Cincinnati is now two games back of the Ravens (three with the tiebreaker) for the AFC North lead.
