CINCINNATI — Joe Burrow is the NFL's highest-paid player.

After months of speculation, the Bengals agreed to sign him to a five-year, $275 million extension that keeps him in Cincinnati for the next seven seasons.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the deal. The contract includes $219.01 million guaranteed.

Burrow becomes the fourth star quarterback to sign a long-term extension this offseason.

Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert were the others.

Burrow's deal tops the rest of the NFL and resets the quarterback market. It should also give Cincinnati some flexibility in their pursuit of long-term deals with Tee Higgins, Ja'Marr Chase and other key pieces on the team.

The Bengals picked Burrow with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, he's completely transformed the organization and has led Cincinnati to back-to-back appearances in the AFC Championship Game.

"Joe Burrow is the heart of the football team," Bengals President Mike Brown said on July 24.

Most Bengals fans remember where they were when Burrow got drafted. Now they know that the star quarterback will be in Cincinnati for a long time.

The Bengals open the 2023 regular season on Sunday in Cleveland.
