CINCINNATI — Will the Bengals sign Joe Burrow to a contract extension between now and Sunday's regular season opener in Cleveland?

That's the question the NFL world is asking with the star quarterback scheduled to chat with the media on Wednesday afternoon.

Over the past six weeks, the 26-year-old has kept his focus on football and rehabbing his strained right calf. He's practicing in full this week and is ready to play on Sunday, sources tell All Bengals.

So what about his contract? Will it get done before he takes the field against the Browns?

No one in the building seems concerned or worried that they won't strike a deal between now and the start of the season.

That's been the mindset throughout this process. The Bengals and Burrow's agent Brian Ayrault have agreed to a "vow" of silence regarding contract talks, but there's a positive vibe when negotiations are brought up within the building.

Things clearly haven't gotten contentious. Instead, both sides continue to push for a deal that makes sense for everyone.

The old saying is "deadlines spur action."

Well, Sunday is an unofficial deadline for a potential extension. The Bengals know it and Burrow's representatives know it.

The general feeling around the situation is that it'll get done before the team travels to Cleveland on Saturday.

Now it's a matter of finding the right contract that makes the face of the franchise happy, but also gives Cincinnati the flexibility to keep some of their other stars, including Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase.
