Cardinals Projected to Gain Comp Pick With Zach Allen Loss
The Arizona Cardinals were set to undergo some sort of roster turnover after a new front office and coaching staff adopted a 4-13 football team, yet the organization was hoping to retain some of their key free agents.
While Will Hernandez and Kelvin Beachum return to the offensive side of the ball, Arizona's top free agents in Byron Murphy and Zach Allen both departed for greener pastures.
Allen's absence particularly may be felt worse with the retirement of J.J. Watt. The duo combined for 18 of Arizona's 36 sacks last season.
The Denver Broncos won the Allen sweepstakes after signing him to a three-year, $45.75 million deal with $32.5 million guaranteed. Allen received $15 million in signing bonus money.
He now joins former Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who also left the desert for Denver.
Arizona is projected to net a fourth-round compensatory pick for Allen's departure.
Thus far, Arizona is one of four teams projected to net a fourth-round compensatory pick for 2024. Only three teams (Jacksonville, Philadelphia and San Francisco 49ers).
The Cardinals notched three extra compensatory picks for 2023: No. 96 pick (third round), No. 168 (fifth round) and No. 213 (sixth round).
