Bears Shut Down Former Steelers WR Chase Claypool
PITTSBURGH -- The Chicago Bears are shutting down former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool in Week 4, making him inactive against the Denver Broncos, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Claypool and the Bears have been on a roller coaster this season, dating back to the summer. After initial reports claimed the team was worried about his effort with football, he started the season on a rough note, catching zero passes.
Following the game, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said the team was considering making him inactive for his lack of effort during blocking plays in the season opener.
The next week, Claypool had three receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown.
But the story got worse. Recently, Claypool said the team isn't using him correctly and was very open about the Bears' inability to create a positive offense for him.
Now, he'll be a healthy inactive for Chicago.
The Steelers traded Claypool to the Bears last season in exchange for a second-round pick. That pick, No. 32 in the 2023 NFL Draft, turned into Joey Porter Jr., who currently allowed a 36.9 passer rating against quarterbacks this season - which leads all rookies.
