Nick Bosa Unlikely to Play Against Steelers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will likely avoid San Francisco's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Nick Bosa, as they take on the 49ers in Week 1. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Bosa is still holding out and is not in the building as the team begins practice.
The Steelers are preparing to face Bosa, and expect him to be a game-wrecker even if he signs just days before their matchup with the 49ers. So far, Bosa has not been around the team, and there appears to be little progress in a contract agreement.
"We were in a similar circumstance with a dynamic rusher a couple years ago in T.J.," head coach Mike Tomlin said about Bosa's situation. "We got a deal done in the eleventh hour. He showed up in the stadium and he was T.J. Watt that day. That's what those guys do. They show up and they are who they are."
If Bosa does not play, the 49ers will rely on Drake Jackson and Clelin Ferrell as their edge rushers.
As of now, there is no deadline for when Bosa would need to return to the team in order to play. The 49ers will likely leave for their cross-country trip on Saturday.
