Steelers Sign Former Rutgers WR
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a late addition to their 90-man roster, signing former Rutgers wide receiver Aron Cruickshank, according to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson.
Cruickshank comes to the Steelers after five years at Rutgers where he catch 103 passes for 908 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for 360 yards and three touchdowns, including 115 yards his final season.
The former Scarlet Knight was the team's primary kick returner, totaling 2,564 yards and four touchdowns during his college career.
Cruickshank comes to Pittsburgh with an opportunity to compete for the return job against Anthony McFarland and Gunner Olszewski. Currently Calvin Austin III is listed as the starter, but McFarland got the opportunity to showcase his skills against the Buffalo Bills, and will likely stay in the competition as they approach the season.
As for his spot as a wide receiver, the Steelers might have their group solidified with Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, Allen Robinson, Austin, Olszewski and Miles Boykin. Still, Cruickshank will get his shot to show his skills.
