Ahmad Gardner, Coby Bryant Earn AP All-America Honors
CINCINNATI — The Associated Press unveiled its All-American list this week, and the Bearcats sport two representatives from the "Blackcats" defense.
Ahmad Gardner earned first-team honors after slotting in with the second-team in 2020. Coby Bryant snagged Gardner's old spot on the second team.
They were the only two AAC athletes named to the list and joined two Mountain West standouts as Group of 5 players to make the team. Every major outlet seemed to love "Sauce" Gardner all season. He also earned All-America First Team honors from CBS Sports, ESPN, and The Athletic.
The shutdown corner has posted 35 tackles, three interceptions, four pass breakups, three sacks, and four tackles for loss through 13 games in what is likely his final season at UC. He is a projected first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Bryant has a good shot to be selected in April as well and was right on his running mate's heels on the award circuit. Bryant snagged the big kahuna of college secondary awards. He was named the 2021 Jim Thorpe Award winner this past weekend.
Gardner's running mate earned second-team recognition from CBS Sports along with Walter Camp All-America honors. He joined 2000 Lou Groza Award winner Jonathan Ruffin as the only two Bearcats to win national awards.
