Robert Saleh on Ahmad Gardner: 'the kid can do it all'

CINCINNATI — The New York Jets have adamantly said they aren't handing Ahmad Gardner a starting cornerback job, but comments from head coach Robert Saleh make it seem like a foregone conclusion. Saleh praised the rookie in recent comments.

“The kid can do it all,” Saleh said to the New York Post. “We won’t put him in a position where we know he won’t succeed. That’s a promise. But there’s not much of that in his game.”

The No. 4 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft made plenty of splash plays throughout the Jets' off-season program and intercepted starting quarterback Zach Wilson multiple times throughout the workouts. The rookie isn't cutting himself any slack throughout this process though.

“If you keep making mistakes, it’s like you are making the decision to make a mistake,” Gardner said. “I want to be perfect, even if there’s no such thing.”

The Jets open training camp at the end of this month, with plenty of eyes fixed on Gardner's development as a starting NFL cornerback.
