CINCINNATI — The UC football team is turning to fresh starters in the tight end room this season and that means more opportunity for Chamon Metayer.

Head coach Scott Satterfield met with the media after practice on Tuesday and discussed how he's developing as a blocker—a crucial part of the position in this system.

"Some good flashes in the blocking aspect," Satterfield said. "If he does it every time, he can be dominant, you know he's a big strong guy with some twitch and we know he can catch, we know he can run. Saw some of that today as well, but I do think he's got a ton of potential and he's got to work hard every single rep to be able to get that out of himself. I'm excited about what he can bring. He's doing good, he's still got a lot more left in the tank. We got to keep getting it out of him."

The 6-foot-5, 248-pound athletic weapon has only played 90 offensive snaps over the past two seasons as he gets thrown into the fire as a projected starter. Over half of those came on run plays last season, where he finished with a 51.6 PFF run blocking grade to a 70.6 mark in pass protection.

He played 42 of those 90 season-long snaps in the Fenway Bowl, tallying a 42.4 overall grade in an all-around rough day for that whole side of the ball.

Metayer is a relative wild card, given his lack of reps and tantalizing physical abilities. He should play a key role in the Bearcats 2023 ceiling after catching one pass for 32 yards last season.
