CINCINNATI — The Big 12 is officially adding Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah. They join former Pac-12 running mate Colorado to create a 16-team league starting in 2024.

“We are thrilled to welcome Arizona, Arizona State and Utah to the Big 12,” said Commissioner Brett Yormark in a press release. “The Conference is gaining three premier institutions both academically and athletically, and the entire Big 12 looks forward to working alongside their presidents, athletic directors, student-athletes and administrators.”

The Pac-12's streaming media deal with Apple wasn't enough to keep the schools around for the long term. Action Network's Brett McMurphy reports that the since pulled offer is below the Big 12's new annual media payout of $31.7 million per school.

The league’s been reduced to just four teams with Oregon and Washington leaving for the Big Ten. Cal, Oregon State, Stanford, and Washington are all that’s left of the Pac-12 after the conference failed to eclipse the Big 12’s media deal.

Three leagues (Big Ten, SEC, Big 12) now boast at least 16 schools.

The Super Conference era is here in college athletics.
