UC Commit Rayvon Griffith Impresses in AAU Finale
CINCINNATI — The stars filled up Bishop Gorman's gym on Tuesday night and it brought out a solid showing from 2023 four-star UC commit Rayvon Griffith.
The guard's AAU travel team, Midwest Basketball Club, took on Bronny James and Strive For Greatness at the Las Vegas Big Time Finale. Griffith's squad cruised to a 78-67 victory over SFG, leading by double-digits for the majority of the night.
Griffith was a spark plug from the jump for MBC, scoring the first five points of the game on a nice triple and punishing transition finish.
The Griffith package is packed into this one 20-second clip. He has worked on his jump shot over the past few months on the grassroots circuit, adding more fluidity and speed to the release. On top of the offense, Griffith defends with a strong base and will to guard up a position or two.
The UC commit finished with 15 points (all in the first half).
MBC let SFG cut the lead to 10 points a few times, but the latter never broke focus in the second half. Five-star weapon Reed Sheppard (16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists) kept the ball pinging around, and it was infectious.
MWBC is not just one of the more visually-pleasing AAU teams to watch play—they display unselfishness on offense that any team should want to emulate.
Take away the stats and fluff of all the four/five stars, and you get an MBC team that loves playing with each other and does it the right way. Griffith struggled in the second half—missing all of his shots and playing limited minutes. That didn't show through in his bench attitude.
Oh, and he left no doubt where his loyalties lie as he gets ready to move out west to Compass Prep (Arizona) for his senior season.
“I love Coach Wes Miller, and that’s why I’m going to Cincinnati," Griffith said after the game.
Griffith's time on the AAU circuit is complete, and he ended it with a bang. This time next year he'll be deep in the Monster Factory, ready to tap into another level of potential.
