Can Georgia Tech advance to the second round of the ACC Tournament?

The ACC Tournament begins today and Georgia Tech is riding the second-longest winning streak in the ACC, winning their last three games (Duke is on a six-game winning streak). The Yellow Jackets have been playing well over the last month of the season after suffering a nine-game losing streak. Head coach Josh Pastner has found a starting lineup that has been solid and guys like Miles Kelly (recently named the ACC player of the week), Lance Terry, and Ja'von Franklin have been carrying this team through this stretch.

Now, the Yellow Jackets face Florida State with a chance to advance to the second round of the ACC Tournament against Pitt on Wednesday. Lose this game and the season will be over and the focus will turn fully to whether or not Athletic Director J Batt decides to bring back Pastner or go in another direction.

These two teams have played once this season, with Florida State winning by 11 in Tallahassee in January. Both teams are different and Tech enters this game with more momentum. Florida State has lost six of its last seven, with the only win being a miraculous buzzer-beater against Miami.

Georgia Tech and Florida State are battling in the ACC Tournament for the fourth time. The Seminoles have won two of the three prior meetings (by a total of three points), but the Yellow Jackets’ victory came in the championship game of the 2021 tournament by an 80-75 score in Greensboro (Per Georgia Tech PR).

1st Half

Lance Terry, Kyle Sturdivant, Deebo Coleman, Miles Kelly, and Ja'von Franklin are the starters for Georiga Tech.

19:14- Lance Terry scores the first points of the ACC Tournament. GT leads 3-0

18:21- Georgia Tech is starting out 2-2 from three. Lead 6-2

16:15- Georgia Tech is in a scoring drought that has lasted over two minutes. Georgia Tech leads 6-5.

Already two fouls on Miles Kelly

15:36- FSU grabs its first lead of the game 7-6

14:19- Media Timeout. Georgia Tech is scoreless in the last four minutes. Missed their last five field goals and trail 7-6.

13:58- FSU is now on a 8-0 run and lead 10-6

12:03- Georgia Tech breaks its scoring drought with a three by Coleman. Lead is 10-9 FSU

9:56- Georgia Tech is one for their last ten. The offensive struggles continue

FSU guard Matthew Cleveland is down with an injury and is leaving the court.

7:57- FSU has hit their last three shots, lead 16-12

6:13- Media timeout. FSU leads Georgia Tech 19-12. Yellow Jackets are shooting 24% from the field and have hit one of their last seven

3:53- Media timeout. FSU leads GT 23-16.

2nd Half:

17:07- A quick 5-0 run from GT has the lead cut to 31-26

Kelly just picked up his third foul

15:51. Media timeout. Georgia Tech cut the lead to five, but back-to-back threes from FSU has the lead at 11, 40-29

14:33- Media timeout. Georgia Tech trails FSU 40-31

13:08- Georgia Tech has cut the lead to six, 40-34. FSU is on a scoring drought of more than two minutes

11:55- Media timeout. Georgia Tech trails FSU 42-36. Florida State has not scored a field goal in the last 3:58

8:31- Georgia Tech has cut the lead to four points. The defense is really turning up for GT

7:45- Timeout from FSU. Georgia Tech trails 47-43

5:08- GT timeout. A three from Miles Kelly has cut the lead to three, 51-48. Stretch run coming up for Georgia Tech

3:28- Deebo Coleman has tied the game. 53-53

2:27- FSU has hit four of their last five shots. Lead is up to four for the Seminoles

Kyle Sturdivant has tied the game with less than a minute left, 60-60

Franklin is fouled and going to the line to win the game
