Joe Burrow Praises Joe Mixon Ahead of Bengals' Matchup With Seahawks

Mixon is on pace to play a career-high 935 snaps this season.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals are leaning on Joe Mixon more than ever and the veteran running back has delivered.

He's been on the field for 75% of their offensive plays this season and is on pace to play a career-high 935 snaps.

Joe Burrow praised Mixon earlier this week when asked for his performance so far this season.

"Joe's playing great. He's really taken a step I think," Burrow said. "He's running the ball hard like he always does. He's drastically improved in his pass protection. He's doing that great this year, so he just needs to continue to do what he's doing. He's playing really well."

Mixon has ran for 328 yards and one touchdown on 3.9 yards-per-carry. He also has 13 receptions for 80 yards.

He's on pace to finish with 1,115 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

"I saw it coming in the offseason," Burrow said when asked about Mixon's growth. "He's really taking ownership of that role on first and second down. He's been doing a great job for us."

Ideally, Chase Brown, Trayveon Williams or Chris Evans would emerge behind Mixon to give the Bengals a second option at running back. The trio has combined for eight carries for 34 yards in five games. Williams has earned the trust of the coaching staff from a pass blocking standpoint, but having another reliable runner that can help keep Mixon fresh would make sense.

Regardless, the 27-year-old is off to a good start this season, which is a major positive for this Bengals' offense.
