Zac Taylor Backs Joe Mixon: 'We're Counting on Him'

The 26-year-old is entering his seventh season with the Bengals

CINCINNATI — Bengals head coach Zac Taylor knows there's been offseason speculation about Joe Mixon's future with the team, but it doesn't sound like the star running back is going anywhere. 

Taylor threw his weight behind Mixon on Tuesday afternoon. 

“I think we’ve [the Bengals] got a great relationship with Joe. I’ve appreciated how he’s come into the building every single day and just worked hard," Taylor said. "That’s a big reason why we gave him the contract we gave him, his presence with the team. He’s a guy I enjoy being around and we’re counting on him.”

Mixon has a $12.7 million cap hit this season. It's unclear if the Bengals will ask him to take a pay cut, but it sounds like Taylor expects him to be on the roster. 

Cincinnati took Chase Brown in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but it's unrealistic to expect him to start as a rookie. 

Mixon is entering his seventh NFL season.
