Nick Scott and Jordan Battle Could Platoon at Safety Moving Forward

The Bengals may rotate their safeties more than they have in the past.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — The Bengals are still looking for an answer at safety ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks.

Second-year pro Dax Hill is entrenched as a starter. He's been on the field for 99% of the Bengals' defensive snaps so far this season.

Will Nick Scott continue to start alongside Hill?

Scott was on the field for 38 snaps during Cincinnati's Week 5 win in Arizona. Rookie Jordan Battle replaced him on one series, finishing with 22 defensive snaps.

It sounds like Battle could see more playing time moving forward.

"Just keep rotating those guys and see how. Jordan's been showing some good things in practice. So I feel like we'll get give him an opportunity," Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo said on Wednesday. "We'll just kind of see how it plays out, but I could see them both playing going forward."

The Bengals don't usually rotate safeties. Last year Jessie Bates (98%) and Vonn Bell (99%) were always on the field.

Hill has taken on that role, but it sounds like Scott and Battle will split snaps moving forward.

Scott has 37 tackles (one for loss) this season in five games. He's allowed 12 receptions on 16 targets according to Pro Football Focus.
