Report: Browns Chances at WR DeAndre Hopkins Dropping?
If you are wanting the Cleveland Browns to sign free-agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, you may want to look the other way. As it’s always stood, the Browns remain unlikely to add the price wideout this late in the off-season.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that the Browns are unlikely to add Hopkins, as they’re not looking to add a big-name wideout. That has always been the case, likely.
Despite being cut by the Arizona Cardinals who have no plans to play meaningful football in 2023, Hopkins is likely going to get a decent deal from a team again. In his first time hitting free agency, many believe that Hopkins will bring in similar money to what Odell Beckham Jr. got from the Baltimore Ravens, $15 million for a season. The expectation is that Hopkins will get somewhere in the teens for one to three seasons.
Cleveland invested in wide receiver Elijah Moore by trading for him and wide receiver Cedric Tillman by drafting him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. When you factor in Donovan Peoples-Jones improving consistently year-to-year and Amari Cooper being on the roster, it doesn’t make the most sense.
Cleveland signed Marquise Goodwin who has stood out in camp, and David Bell is another young player at the position. There is only one football to go around and you have the best running back in the NFL to feed in Nick Chubb.
If the price came down, Cleveland could certainly look into the option again.
I’m what seemed to be media driven all along, right now the Browns don’t seem to be entertaining a real possibility of adding Hopkins despite their franchise quarterback saying he’d love to play with them again.
Hopkins already has a visit scheduled with the Tennessee Titans, where he could maybe land. If not, there are other teams that make sense such as a trip back to the Houston Texans organization.
