Report: Browns Named one of two Teams Most Likely to Land RB Ezekiel Elliott
Cleveland Browns are reportedly in the mix for Ezekiel Elliott, who would come in and be their second-string running back behind Nick Chubb. Cleveland is said to be in the mix for Elliott’s services along with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Elliott was a cap casualty of the Dallas Cowboys this off-season after seven seasons with them. Elliott had four seasons of at least 1,000 yards on the ground and led the league in rushing in both 2016 and 2018.
A former Ohio State Buckeye that was pivotal in their run to a National Championship in 2014, Elliott would be well accepted in Northeast Ohio.
Though he’s lost a step and it showed last season when he had a career-low 3.8 yards per carry, the former Cowboy still could add value to any team. Elliott is a willing blocker and he can catch passes out of the backfield, much like the Browns asked Kareem Hunt to do.
With Hunt gone, the Browns have Jerome Ford as the next man up. Ford did not get much opportunity as a rookie last season, with eight carries. Coming into the season with Ford as the backup running back would not be wise.
Los Angeles may be the more appealing place to go in terms of location but playing in Cleveland should give Elliott an equal chance to win with a talented roster.
At this point, it’s something to continue to monitor, if the Browns decide to ramp up the interest. There is no way to ensure the source is reputable but it’s still something to think about until the Browns do make the move for another running back.
