Two of Browns day Three Selections Labeled as “Elite Picks”

Cleveland Browns found two offensive linemen in the later rounds that have a chance to really develop.
In this story:

Two of Cleveland Browns draft picks in the NFL Draft that ended this evening have been labeled as “elite picks” by one outlet. Pro Football Focus tabbed the Browns’ selections of OT Dawand Jones and C Luke Wypler as some of the top picks on day three.

Jones was seen as an early-round talent with his rare combination of size and moving ability. But off-the-field concerns and the worry that he would not take football seriously enough at the next level caused him to slip. Still, the Browns and GM Andrew Berry were pleased to be able to select the former Ohio State Buckeye with a fourth-round selection.

The former basketball player that held Division I offers in the sport was taken with the 111th pick in the draft.

Wypler fell down boards due to his smaller length and lesser strength but is the type of center the Browns value and want. He’s fundamentally smart with his blocking and has a good football IQ. Wypler does well with a zone-running scheme.

Ethan Pocic will start for the Browns but Wypler has a chance to battle Nick Harris for the backup job, one that he should have a good shot at winning. Getting a player that has virtually third-round grades everywhere in the sixth round is wizardry work.

The Browns don’t always draft Buckeyes, but fans will certainly be happy with this pair of in-state teammates that are going to begin their pro careers together.
