SI Grades the Browns Free Agency to This Point
Cleveland Browns hit free agency hard this off-season, to say the least. They attacked the defensive line while beefing up other areas of need. Sports Illustrated graded NFL teams on the free agency so far, giving the Browns a B-plus.
This is what was said about Cleveland’s free agency:
The Browns improved defensively with the free-agent signings of Tomlinson, Okoronkwo, and Thornhill. The arrival of Moore, who was traded by the Jets last week, will give Deshaun Watson a playmaker downfield. Cleveland got better on both sides of the trenches, and the additions will assist the team’s two most important players in Watson and Myles Garrett.
Ogbonnia Okronkwo and Dalvin Tomlinson are much-needed reinforcements on the line. Grabbing a starting safety was vital and the Browns did that with Thornhill. Though Elijah Moore was not a free-agency signing, Cleveland recently traded for him and it’s a big addition.
Moore is another weapon for the offense and Deshaun Watson. As SI mentioned, some of these moves already help what the Browns have. Adding pieces to the defensive line is only going to make Myles Garrett’s life easier.
Cleveland added wideout Marquise Goodwin to give them more speed, as well as tight end Jordan Akins.
Free agency rolls on and the Browns shouldn’t be done yet. Another defensive tackle or edge rusher wouldn’t hurt, and neither would an extra safety.
We’re less than a month until the NFL Draft, where the Browns will add more pieces to the puzzle. For now, they’ve had a pretty good free agency that they need to build off of.
