Browns DE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo Says Best is yet to Come, Excited to Team up With Myles Garrett
Cleveland Browns signed an exciting defense end who believes he's not played his best ball yet in the NFL. Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is a talented 27-year-old pass rusher who got his first chance at starting last season with the Houston Texans. He had five sacks in eight starts.
On Wednesday, Okoronkwo spoke with the Cleveland local media. He explained he doesn't think he has reached his potential yet in the league.
“I think the best is yet to come for me," said Okoronkwo.
I don’t think anybody has seen my best ball yet. I am excited to show everybody.”
New defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has a few new weapons to use in Okoronkwo, Dalvin Tomlinson, Maurice Hurst -- as well as the guys already on the team. In the past, the defensive line of Schwartz's has faired well.
"With Coach Schwartz, just traditionally, D ends have a lot of success in his defense – high sack numbers and high production. I am really excited about that."
Okoronkwo is set to play the opposite of Myles Garrett, a player he thinks highly of. Garrett is one of the game's best and he's shown that.
"Playing on the other side of Myles Garrett, I think it speaks for itself," said Okoronkwo.
"He has been one of the best pass rushers in the league year in and year out. Being able to play alongside him will open up a lot of things for me so I am excited about that, as well.”
Garrett and Okoronkwo have already talked. As many know in Cleveland, Garrett is a quiet leader. He's already spoken with his new teammate.
"We have talked. We are just excited to get after quarterbacks. He has watched a lot of my game, and I have of course watched a bunch of his game. We are just ready to play with each other and learn what each other likes and how to play off of each other. We are excited to just get going.”
“I think me and Myles both possess a combination of traits – speed, power, and quickness. That coming off of both edges is going to be a lot for an offensive line to deal with. We are just excited to see how they are going to try to block us.”
