Report: Lamar Jackson Finalizing Deal With Ravens
The wait is just about over. On the day the NFL Draft begins, Lamar Jackson is taking the spotlight as he and the Baltimore Ravens close in on a new deal. According to Ian Rapoport, Jackson and the Ravens have agreed to terms and are finalizing the contract.
The contract comes in at five-years and $260 million. Jackson received $185 million in guarantees, per Josina Anderson. Baltimore gave Jackson the biggest quarterback contract ever in terms of money per year.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal is going to be for five years and removes Jackson from being a restricted free agent. What once looked like Jackson may be heading elsewhere, he’s now staying put in the AFC North.
This is certainly not the most favorable noise for the Browns, who will continue playing Jackson twice a year for the foreseeable future.
Playing Jackson twice a year, means you have to plan for Jackson twice a year. It can be a pain and a task at hand for the Browns new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Cleveland added to their defensive line, which in turn should free up the linebackers more, that’s a starting point.
Defending the run and pass threat thar Jackson brings could be at an all-time high in terms of difficulty. It seems the Ravens are finally going to invest resources in putting good wideouts around him. The defensive back depth has never been more important for Cleveland.
When Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was drafted by the Browns, many looked at him as a Lamar “stopper”. He hasn’t had that assignment entirely but he can certainly help the team’s process in stopping him. Players that can work side-to-side and be good in pursuit are what the Browns need in stopping Jackson.
