Browns Ended up Trading Pick No. 42 for two Wide Receivers
When the Cleveland Browns traded pick No. 42 in the 2023 NFL Draft, they probably didn’t realize they would get two wide receivers back for it. The pick was traded to the New York Jets for WR Elijah Moore and the No. 74 pick in the draft.
With that third-round pick, the Browns went on to select Tennessee’s big wideout, Cedric Tillman. Many had the Browns taking a wide receiver in the draft but it is interesting to think that it worked out as a 2-for-1 deal with the No. 42 pick.
Out of the wide receivers mocked to the Browns throughout the draft process, Tillman was not a common one. Still, Tillman became a third-round pick after playing in just six games in 2022 due to a sprained ankle. In 2021, Tillman was the team’s top option at wide receiver with 1,081 receiving yards to show for it.
Moore figured to fill in as that third option for the wide receiver position in Cleveland and will have a much better opportunity to consistently produce than he did in Cleveland. Tillman won’t be rushed but the Browns should be excited about his physicality and end zone ability at 6-foot-3 and nearly 220 pounds.
Value is important when you’re making trades in the NFL, as is team fit. It looks like the Browns have at least made the right move when it comes to both with the No. 42 pick in the draft that was traded to the Jets, then to the Green Bay Packers as part of the Aaron Rodgers deal.
