Former Steeler Named Cardinals Starting QB
PITTSBURGH -- The Arizona Cardinals are rolling the dice with former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs as they enter the 2023 regular season. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Dobbs will be named the starter for Week 1.
The Cardinals traded with the Cleveland Browns ahead of their final roster cuts to acquire the Steelers' fifth-round pick. He competed with rookie Clayton Tune as the team awaits the return of Kyler Murray, and will walk into the season as QB1.
According to Rapoport, Dobbs and Tune will compete on a week-to-week basis for the starting job. It's unknown when Murray will return, but Arizona does expect him back on the field by the end of the season.
Dobbs is 0-2 as a starter, playing eight games in his NFL career. He's completed 50 of 85 pass attempts for two touchdowns and three interceptions. He's also rushed for 75 yards.
