CINCINNATI — It looks like Cincinnati is not only losing its offensive coordinator but its leader on special teams as well. According to 247Sports, Notre Dame is hiring away UC special teams coordinator Brian Mason for the same position.

The Fighting Irish moved on from former coordinator Brian Polian and has locked in on his replacement. Losing Mason stings as much if not more than losing offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock to LSU. The latter led the most efficient punt coverage unit in the country and an elite special teams unit overall.

Mason just wrapped up his fifth season at Cincinnati and fourth on the coaching staff as the special teams coordinator and snipers coach. He was a big reason the Bearcats were one of 17 teams nationally to block three punts in 2021 and tied for first with Houston and Old Dominion in blocked field goals (6).
