Cincinnati Reds Prospects to Play in MLB's New Spring Breakout
Major League Baseball announced earlier this week that they would be adding something new to Spring Training this season.
Spring Breakout will be a four-day event meant to showcase MLB's young stars and upcoming prospects.
The event will be between March 14-17, 2024 during Spring Training in both the Cactus League in Arizona and the Grapefruit League in Florida.
“Spring Breakout will provide a new opportunity to showcase the future stars of the game as they continue on their journey to the Major Leagues,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a release Wednesday. “Our fans will get unique opportunities to meet our best prospects, get autographs and see the next generation of Major Leaguers up close. We are thrilled that Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball and all of our Clubs are working closer than ever to grow the game and to shine a brighter light on our future All-Stars.”
It will be a series of 16 games over four days and will feature teams made up of an organizations best young players and top 25 prospects.
The games will be seven innings and 12 of them will be played as part of a doubleheader with a regular Major League Spring Training game.
The Reds will open up the series on Thursday, March 14 when they travel to Surprise, Arizona to take on the World Series Champion Texas Rangers. The game will be a part of a doubleheader with the Spring Breakout game starting at 6:05 PM ET.
Cincinnati will also host a Spring Breakout game on Saturday, March 16 against the Cleveland Guardians at Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona.
That game will be the second leg of a doubleheader, with the Reds hosting the Seattle Mariners in a traditional Spring Training game beforehand.
