Despite Infield Depth, Jeimer Candelario Signing Allows Reds to Fill Offseason Weakness
CINCINNATI — The Reds agreed to sign Jeimer Candelario to a 3-year, $45 million contract this week. The infielder has experience at first and third base.
What does that mean for a crowded infield? Plenty have speculated that a Jonathan India trade could be coming, but it doesn't sound like that will be the case.
Cincinnati had a need for a right-handed bat in the outfield. Signing Candelario allows the Reds to simply shuffle their roster internally.
Spencer Steer can play outfield full time. He has experience in left field and spent a few games in right field last season.
Rather than signing a right handed bat in the outfield, the Reds signed Candelario, which allows them to move Steer to the outfield full time.
The addition makes a versatile roster even more flexible. For more on the signing or India's future in Cincinnati, go here.
