CINCINNATI — The Reds have been linked to a plethora of starting pitchers this offseason, including multiple free agents.

General manager Nick Krall has made it clear that they'd be active this offseason in hopes of adding to their talented young roster.

It sounds like Reds owner Bob Castellini is willing to spend to address flaws on the roster. Jeff Passan is reporting that Castellini is prepared to spend money to help put the Reds in position to win in 2024.

"Giving up controllable talent for one-year rentals isn't necessarily the Reds' style," Passan wrote. "Doing so for a frontline type, though, is well within their means talent- and budget-wise, with a payroll that currently stands at $32 million and warrants a bump into nine-figure territory. At the recent owners meetings, Cincinnati's Bob Castellini said he expects to spend this offseason. If he does enough, the Reds could morph into a potential division winner."

Cincinnati Reds Have Plenty of Options Despite Missing Out on Sonny Gray

The Reds were "close" to signing Sonny Gray and are reportedly having active trade talks with the Guardians about Shane Bieber and the Rays about Tyler Glasnow.

Adding a veteran with their pedigree could be exactly what they need, even if it does cost significant money and resources. Signing an outfielder could also be high on the Reds' priority list.
