Former Reds Starter Tyler Mahle Agrees to 2-Year, $22 Million Contract With Rangers
CINCINNATI — Former Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle has agreed to a two-year, $22 million contract with the Texas Rangers according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.
The 29-year-old underwent Tommy John Surgery in May, but is expected to pitch in 2024. He can earn another $5 million in performance bonuses in 2025 according to Passan.
Mahle spent the first six years of his career in Cincinnati. The Reds traded him to the Twins on Aug. 2, 2022 for Spencer Steer and Christian Encarnacion-Strand.
Both Steer and Encarnacion-Strand quickly became franchise building blocks in 2023 and helped Cincinnati rebound after an ugly 2022 season.
