SI Ranks Browns Draft Class in the Lower Half of AFC

Cleveland not having a first-round pick has hurt them in many evaluations.

Cleveland Browns put together a seven-man draft class just a few days ago despite not having a first or second-round pick. Many grades have come out for the Browns and other teams, while most have liked what the Browns have done, some remain skeptical.

Sports Illustrated released a piece grading all of the AFC draft classes and the Browns came in at No. 11 on that list. Each of the Pittsburgh Steelers (1), Baltimore Ravens (4), and Cincinnati Bengals (7) were all listed about the Browns in these rankings.

Despite not picking until the third round at pick No. 74, the Browns draft class included; WR Cedric Tillman, DT Siaki Ika, OT Dawand Jones DE Isaiah McGuire, QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, CB Cameron Mitchell, and C Luke Wypler.

“The Browns didn’t have a pick until the third round but still found nice value immediately in Tennessee wide receiver Cedric Tillman. He’ll join a talented room of pass catchers, including Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones. Cleveland also took a local product in Ohio State’s Dawand Jones, a right tackle checking in at 375 pounds whom many believed could be a top-50 selection. Still, without choices in the first two rounds, Cleveland was left to hunt for value, walking away without anybody who could be seen as an immediate, impact player. Not a bad class on paper, but it might not bear much fruit in 2023,” per the SI article.

It takes at least a couple of seasons to gain the feel of what a draft class will be. Evaluations can be made early on team fit, needs, and early returns. If the Browns have three or more picks pan out well in this class, it looks like it could be a big win.
