Ahmad Gardner: 'I Don't Have Plans on Giving up' a Touchdown in the NFL
CINCINNATI — A nickname like "Sauce" breeds confidence in anyone. Ahmad Gardner oozed that signature confidence and then some during his media availability at the 2022 NFL Combine.
NFL teams are all over the place with a mixture of Gardner, Derek Stingley, and Trey McDuffie atop their cornerback lists, but the UC product has no doubt where he stands.
"My competitive spirit, my love for the game," Gardner said about why he's the best corner in the class. "I truly believe I'm the best cornerback. I put the work in. Unseen work in required hours, just making sure I lead by example. I'm not a smoker, not a drinker. Never have, never will. Just make sure I do all the little things right."
Gardner also chimed in on which receiver gave him the most fits over his stellar UC career.
"Probably say Calvin Austin," Gardner said. "He was a smaller receiver—I wasn't used to it my sophomore year."
Sauce declared he is "most definitely" ready for every body type he'll see in the NFL. He's also ready to carry his clean sheet of no touchdowns allowed to the next level.
"I don't have plans on giving one up in the NFL," Gardner said with a smile. "I'm not a guy that dwells on the last play. As a cornerback, you gotta have short-term memory. So I say that's my only disorder—I have short-term memory loss."
