Three-Star 2023 Guard Brooklyn Hicks Puts UC in Top-Seven Schools
CINCINNATI — Things are slowing down a bit on the basketball recruiting trail as elite players get ready for their final high school seasons. Although, three-star point guard Brooklyn Hicks out of Timberline (Washington) broke the silence by placing UC in his top-seven schools.
According to 247Sports, Hicks is the 44th-ranked point guard nationally and the third-best prospect in Washington.
He holds 10 offers but is down to UC, Oregon State, Washington State, Nevada, Saint Mary's, UNLV, and Rice. The Bearcats are—notably—the only school east of the Mississippi River that Hicks is interested in.
At 6-3, 180 pounds, Hicks has an ideal frame to be the Bearcats' next lead guard in the Big 12. He's a herky-jerky ballhandler that keeps opponents guessing with those motions. That handle offers him a ton of space on dribble drives and floaters, which he appears to convert efficiently.
He's the deadliest moving left to right and has a nasty pull-up jumper that helped him drop a 44-point game back in 2020. Spin move, crossover, step-back jumper, Hicks has a strong package of skills for an incoming senior. His knack for squeezing every bit of hang time on his jumps near the rim is unteachable. Hicks will have to put on more weight to guard all three perimeter spots with the Bearcats, but the foundation is there.
