CINCINNATI — Joey Votto is a free agent for the first time in his career after the Reds made the decision to decline his club option in November.

The former National League MVP shared an update on his search for a new team.

"Being a free agent is like that scene from Gravity where Sandra Bullock detaches from the Explorer," Votto tweeted. "You’re all alone, no one is answering your calls, and you don’t know if you’ll get back to base. Your only hope is George Clooney saving you. Save me, George."

The Blue Jays are reportedly interested in Votto, but it doesn't feel like a deal is imminent.

The 40-year-old spent the first 17 seasons of his career with the Reds. Now he's hoping to find the right situation for him in free agency.

Votto appeared in 2,056 games for Cincinnati, finishing with 2,135 hits, 1,365 walks, 356 home runs and 1,144 RBI. He posted a .294 batting average and a .920 OPS.

The Reds declined his $20 million club option for 2024 and bought out the final year of his deal for $7 million.

'Gravity' starring Clooney and Bullock, premiered in 2013 and made over $720 million at the box office. Clooney is a Reds fan. He grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, which is 83 miles from Cincinnati.
