CINCINNATI — The Blue Jays are reportedly interested in trading for Reds infielder Jonathan India.

What could the former National League Rookie of the Year an India bring back in a possible deal?

To begin, there’s not a lot here. According to Baseball Trade Values, India’s trade value is just above $12 million.

They also have just six Blue Jays players at $12 million or more and only two of them are between $12 million and $21 million. Could this be something where Nick Krall puts together a package that includes India? I don’t think that is what he’s thinking here. It’s likely a trade for just India or no trade at all.

The Reds could conceivably do a one-for-one swap of India and Alek Manoah. The right hander has been in lots of trade rumors, as he experienced quite a down year in 2023 for Toronto. Baseball Trade Values has Manoah right under $12 million in value, so a one-for-one swap could work, but is that a good deal for the Reds?

Manoah started just 19 games last year, compared to 31 in 2022. He had a 5.87 ERA and the peripheral numbers don't help his cause. He issued 6.08 walks per nine innings, which is horrendous. His average fastball velocity dropped a mile per hour.

Manoah has pitched well before, so there’s definitely a chance he bounces back. He isn’t even arbitration eligible for another year, so there’s plenty of team control. India is also a bit of a bounce back candidate, but is it to this extent?

There’s really no other realistic players that excite me in a potential India trade involving the Blue Jays.

You could ponder a shift at catcher if the Reds acquired Danny Jansen, or see them getting an outfielder like Daulton Varsho, but neither guy really moves the needle.

The Blue Jays are not exactly flush with prospects right now either. They had just two prospects land in Baseball America's Top-100 rankings.

India’s value as a member of the Reds in 2024 is greater than the value they’d likely receive in any realistic trade with the Blue Jays.
