CINCINNATI — The Reds are one of multiple teams hoping to bolster their starting rotation this offseason.

Cincinnati continues to monitor the trade and free agent markets in hopes of adding a quality starting pitcher.

Shane Bieber is one of their potential targets. It sounds like the Guardians may package the 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner with closer Emmanuel Clase in hopes of receiving a greater return.

"If you package him with Emmanuel Clase, who's been another player that they've been discussing, then you get into a more interesting conversation and perhaps that is the way this will go," Ken Rosenthal said on the Foul Territory podcast.

Clase had a career-high 44 saves last season and has 86 totals saves over the past two years. He is under team control through the 2028 season.

If the Guardians are adamant about trading Bieber and Clase in the same deal, then Nick Krall would likely look elsewhere.

Reds closer Alexis Diaz finished with 37 saves last season and is under team control through 2027.

Landing Bieber would be huge for the Reds and it remains a possibility, but a deal becomes less likely if Cleveland tries to package him and Clase together.
