Joe Burrow on His Season-Ending Wrist Injury: 'It's Tough to Handle'
CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is done for the 2023 season with a torn ligament in his wrist and the quarterback addressed the media following the announcement by head coach Zac Taylor.
It's a tough development for a player who's fought through a significant medical issue/recovery in every year of his career. From the torn knee ligaments as a rookie, leading to offseason rehab in 2021, to the appendectomy last year and calf this season, Burrow cannot catch a break.
"Yeah it's tough," Burrow said on Friday. "You work so hard for seasons and moments like these, so whenever you get hurt and it ends early it's tough to handle, but that's part of the game. Been through it before, so just got to grind it out."
Burrow now starts the recovery process, which he didn't have a clear timeline for.
"Yeah, I don't know," Burrow said. "It's still very early, still people to talk to and you know, a lot of work to do. So. I don't really have an answer on that one."
According to Ortho Info, severe wrist sprains with a torn ligament can range from 8-12 weeks to six months and even 12 for a full recovery. It's a wide range for a reason and too soon to say when Burrow may be back to normal as he tries to have an injury/surgery-free NFL season for the first time in his career.
Burrow mentioned surgery is the most likely route but he and the medical team are still assessing recovery options.
