Zac Taylor Defends Logan Wilson's Playing Character Unprompted Amidst 'Dirty Play' Accusations

Mark Andrews suffered a major injury when Logan Wilson tackled him on Thursday night.

CINCINNATI — Bengals head coach Zac Taylor made a point to defend linebacker Logan Wilson from some of the floated ideas that he played dirty in Thursday's game against the Ravens.

Baltimore tight end Mark Andrews suffered a cracked fibula and an ankle ligament injury on a "hip-drop tackle" by Wilson which is when a tackler lands his body weight on a ballcarrier's legs.

“I do have one more thing I want to say, because one thing that’s frustrating was the narrative that’s been brought up about Logan Wilson,” Taylor said. “Logan is everything we want to be about, in the way he plays the game. He plays with a toughness and a physicality that is important to that position. It’s kind of been brought to my attention the narrative that’s out there right now, which I think is completely reckless.

"He plays the game the right way, and I think people have gotten ahead of themselves, labeling him a certain way, and it’s frustrating to see that because I know what he’s about and he plays the game the right way. It’s unfortunate when a player gets injured. But he’s a guy I’m very proud to coach, I’m proud to have as part of this team, but frustrating and a little bit maddening when you see the narrative that started running loose on him because that’s not the case at all.”

National voices like Bart Scott and others were upset with Wilson for how he made the play, but former NFL safety Ryan Clark was on the same TV segment with Scott and took serious issue with the "dirty play" label.

"How do you get people on the ground then Bart?" Clark asked. "If I'm chasing a guy and the only chance is to grab his waist and run down the field? Is that what I have to do? Bart, you can't run your feet when he's running away from you. So if I continue to run my feet and I continue to run with him. Either I gotta hope that I'm fast enough to push him forward and he topples forward or he just keeps running!"
