NFL General Manager Believes Caleb Williams Better Prospect Than Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence

Williams is projected to be the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — The Bengals took Joe Burrow with the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and that decision has paid off. Burrow is one of the best quarterbacks on the planet and he's led Cincinnati to back-to-back AFC Championship Games.

Despite his success, one NFL general manager believes USC's Caleb Williams would've been the top pick in 2020 or 2021 when Trevor Lawrence went No. 1 overall.

"Williams would have been drafted first overall in both 2020 [over Burrow] and 2021 [Lawrence]," an NFL general manager told Matt Miller of ESPN.com. "That's no knock on either player -- and they're both really good in the league -- but Williams is a difference-maker. Joe and Trevor are distributors. Great ones. Caleb is a game-changer."

One scout believes Williams is the best of Burrow and the best the top running quarterbacks out there.

"The thing with Caleb is that he's a great passer—on par with Burrow, Lawrence, but he's also a great runner—on par with Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen," an NFC scout told Miller. "That's the thing people miss. He's the best prospect maybe ever at both components [combined]."

USC is 6-0 this season. Williams has thrown for 1,822 yards and 22 touchdowns. He's certainly considered the top quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.

We'll see if he can do something both Burrow and Lawrence did when they were in college: Win a National Championship.
