Luke Fickell Earns Top-10 Status on Multiple 'Best CFB Coaches' Lists

Fickell is six wins away from becoming the winningest coach in UC football history.

CINCINNATI — The Athletic's Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel ranked their top-25 head coaches in college football this week, and Luke Fickell made the top-10 on both lists.

Feldman placed him at No. 10 after ranking him 20th on the 2021 list.

"Hats off to him for getting a Group of 5 program into the College Football Playoff," Feldman wrote. "It’s been an amazing run for the Bearcats, which had fallen apart under Tommy Tuberville, under Fickell: 44-7 the past four seasons."

Mandel had Fickell two spots higher after having him 11th last year.

"Fickell is the most respected Group of 5 coach since Chris Petersen," Mandel wrote. "Cincinnati’s historic 13-1 Playoff season capped a four-year run of 44-7, with back-to-back top-10 finishes. Despite consisting largely of unheralded recruits, the Bearcats figure to be well-represented in this spring’s NFL Draft."

Fickell owns the second-best win rate among qualified UC head coaches (76.2%) and is six wins away from becoming the winningest coach in program history.
