Cincinnati Reds Continue to Strengthen Bullpen by Adding Brent Suter
The Cincinnati Reds agreed to sign left-handed pitcher Brent Suter to a one-year, $2.5 million contract according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The deal includes a $3.5 million option for 2025 with a buyout of $500k.
Suter, 34, gives the Reds another reliable left hander in the bullpen. Nick Krall has continued to add to the pitching staff and Suter will be a solid option for David Bell to call upon.
He pitched 69 1/3 innings across 57 games for the Rockies in 2023. He’s not a high strikeout pitcher but he does limit hard contact. In fact, Suter had the second lowest average exit velocity against. His 3.38 ERA last year made it five-straight seasons having an ERA below 4.00.
Suter will join Emilio Pagan and Nick Martinez (if he doesn’t make the starting rotation) in a Reds bullpen that was one of the best in the league last year according to WAR.
