CINCINNATI — The Reds are signing veteran Josh Harrison to a NRI (non-roster invite) contract with an invite to big league spring training, his management team announced on Monday.

The 36-year-old is a Cincinnati native. He spent the first eight years of his career with the Pirates and is a two-time All-Star. He appeared in 40 games for the Phillies last season, posting a .204/.263/.291 slash line.

Harrison has experience playing second and third base. He can also play in the outfield. He's a savvy veteran that brings plenty of experience to a young Reds roster.

He has to perform at a high level in spring training to make the club, but Harrison gives the Reds another proven depth piece that they could ultimately add to their roster.
