Cincinnati Reds Trade for Veteran Infielder Santiago Espinal
CINCINNATI — The Reds traded minor league pitcher Chris McElvain to the Blue Jays for infielder Santiago Espinal. The team announced the deal on Wednesday evening.
Espinal has appeared in at least 92 games in each of the past three seasons. He has experience at second base, third base and shortstop. He was an All-Star in 2022.
The veteran gives the Reds another proven infielder with Matt McLain dealing with a shoulder injury and Noelvi Marte suspended for the first 80 games of the season.
Espinal has posted a .273 batting average for his career with 11 home runs and 99 RBI in 346 career games. For more on Espinal, check out the graphic below:
