Four Reds Players Make Top Rookies List Following Breakout 2023 Season
The Cincinnati Reds had multiple rookies named to the top National League rookie list. MLB Network and the Cincinnati Reds media page collaborated on a post that featured four rookie standouts.
Here are the players that made the cut:
No. 4, Spencer Steer
Steer is a talented rookie that played in 156 games and had 582 at bats last season. He finished with 23 home runs and 178 hits and a .271 batting average. He led the team in home runs, RBI (86), hits (158), and on base percentage (.356).
No. 6, Matt McLain
McLain is a UCLA alumni that lit up the competition all year long. He played in 89 games, finishing with a .290 batting average, 16 home runs and 50 RBI. McLain is only 24 years old, and he appears to be a big part of their future.
No. 9, Andrew Abbott
Abbott was phenomenal on the mound for the Reds in 2023. He started 21 games, finishing with an 8-6 record and totaled 9 quality starts. Abbott gave up 100 hits, 47 earned runs, and 16 home runs, all while having 120 strikeouts in 109.1 innings. Fans expect this talented pitcher to do big things in the future.
No. 10, Elly De La Cruz
De La Cruz was one of the most hyped-up prospects this season. He finished his rookie season with an average of .235, 13 home runs and 44 RBI in 98 games played.
De La Cruz hit for the cycle, becoming the first Reds player to accomplish that feat since Eric Davis since 1989.
